“Ugh..its Monday.”

The single most heard phrase throughout today. We all dread the ending of the weekend and the beginning of the week. Back when I was still in school, this meant that I was up late on Sunday night finishing off the work that I procrastinated on all weekend. Come Monday morning, I wanted to skip class or sleep in later. Before my feet hit the floor, a nap was already scheduled…you know we’ve all been there.

Lately, I’ve been on such a fast pace schedule that complaining and making excuses about things has not been an option. Last Monday, even though I tried to sleep in until 8:30 (yes, that’s my kind of sleeping in these days), my body decided to wake me up around 6:15. *cue the rolling of the eyes* So instead of tossing and turning or checking social media every 5 minutes to see if anyone posted something new, I got up and started my day. After showering and eating breakfast, I tackled the over 100 e-mails that I ignored during the weekend. Within a span of an hour and a half I was down to just under 20 e-mails.

As I went on about my Monday morning, I found myself focused and super productive. Later on in the day, I received responses to many of the e-mails that I had tackled earlier in the morning. To my surprise, I had replies to three e-mails regarding projects that I had spent hours developing the week before. Of course, I was in an even better mood after reading them.

Taking time for dinner, I sat down to see what I had to get finished afterwards. To my surprise, I had taken care of everything on the “dreadful Monday to do list.” I double and triple checked to see if I had missed something or if I had just marked something off, but not really finished it. I was finished with everything. It was early and I was able to enjoy dinner instead of worrying about how much work there was still left to do. After dinner, I was able to get ahead and even enjoy getting into bed early. Reflecting on my day, I could not believe how much of a difference my attitude and dedication to kicking off the week paid off.

Even looking back further now as I write this post, if I had not had the different outlook on that Monday, I would not have achieved the closing of deals and celebrating with a new watch this weekend! So, as much as teachers or parents will tell you and as cliché as it is, Monday does not have to be so dreadful if we just kick off the week with an earlier alarm, a good attitude, and lots of determination.

Oh yeah and why not kick off the week with some stylish Monday Blues! I know what you’re all thinking, “Louis, you own too much blue.” You all may be right, but as Dean from PKP says, “Navy is the new neutral”. I could not agree more!
